4 tips for designing a home that you will continue to love for years

Setting up a living space is no easy feat, so it’s better to create a space that you’ll love for a long time as opposed to redecorating frequently. When decorating your home, keep these four tips in mind to create a space that stands the test of time:

1. Seek out quality furniture

Everyone wants to save money, but buying low-quality, cheap furniture will actually cost you more money in the long run. Higher-quality products last longer, which means you can enjoy their great style and functionality for years.

2. Don’t overspend on trendy products

The trendy accessories that you love might be in style now, but what about a year from now? It’s okay to keep up with the trends and incorporate what’s “in” at the moment into your home’s design, but be careful of overspending on products that you will only use for a short period of time. Save your money for a beautiful piece of wall art or a stunning light fixture instead.

3. Tell your story with design

Take a page out of interior designer Diego Rincon’s book and fill your home with meaningful items that share your story and personality. For example, you can display souvenirs or decorative items that you’ve acquired while traveling. Antique items that have been passed down in the family can also make great décor for your home.

4. Find ways to make easy, temporary changes

No matter how much you love the look of your space, there may come a time when you feel ready for a change. Instead of redecorating an entire room, however, you can make simple changes that will save you time, money and stress. When you’re craving color, hang up bright wallpaper on one or more of your walls. When the seasons change, switch out your smaller accessories like accent pillows and curtains for items that are more suitable. Small changes can have a big impact on the overall look and feel of a room.

People should feel happy in their home environment. Create space that you can love for years with these four tips in mind.

How to Incorporate Bright Colors into your Home

Decorating with bright colors is an easy way to liven up a space and give it some cheer. Unfortunately, it is also an easy way to ruin the look of your favorite room if you’re not careful. Have you ever walked into someone’s home and instantly thought “what were they thinking?!” More often than not, the culprit of their disastrous interior design was the misuse of colors. Maybe they tried using too many different colors. Whatever the case, it certainly did not leave you impressed.

Accessorize with bright colors

The easiest way to add some life to a room is to decorate with colorful accessories. Whether it’s an abstract painting, a red lamp or a colorful throw pillow, you can be sure that these smaller furnishings will make a big difference. Don’t be afraid to select different colored items. As long as the colors complement each other, they will look great in your room.  Make sure to check out, Jezebel, who handcrafts beautiful pieces of glass and metal lighting, all in the USA.

Add a surprising pop of color with bright furniture

If you want your bright colors to make more of an impact, consider a bold piece of furniture like a sofa or table. Because these items are larger, they will instantly become the center of attention in any room. In most rooms, you will want to have only one or two of these larger, brighter furnishings. Otherwise, each piece will have to fight for attention and will have less of an impact.

Go daring and install colorful wallpaper

Just because you ought to be careful with bright colors, doesn’t mean that you can’t still be daring. Install wallpaper with a colorful design on just one of the walls in a room like a mural. Wallpaper on one wall instead of all four will add style to your room without overwhelming it.

If you’re not sure whether two colors work together when decorating, ask for a second or even third opinion. You can even take pictures to get a better idea. After your interior design has been revamped with a brighter look, you’ll never want to go back to an ordinary, neutral color palette again!

People started to paint their walls instead and wallpaper was considered dated. Because paint can only offer so much, however, wallpaper is now making a comeback, allowing you to add even more creativity to your bedroom design.

When friends and family members walk into your bedroom, you want them to be amazed, impressed and maybe even a little bit jealous. Wallpaper is a great way to design a unique look. Pop goes the wall! Using wallpaper to give rooms a style boost

Wallpaper is going through a revolution. There was a time not too long ago when it was considered passé – a relic that reminded us of musty, old-fashioned spaces that were more dull than dynamic. But that perception just doesn’t stand up any more. Now, wallpaper is regaining recognition as one of the quickest ways to give a big pop of style to rooms that are lacking in personality.

Topping the trend list for wallpapers are patterns and prints that give the impression of texture. Lattice or trellis patterns provide unfussy graphic effects, particularly in key color trends like grey and yellow. Textures pulled from the natural world, like birch bark, cork and bamboo, all provide subtle organic touches. And even classical patterns like florals and damasks are having new life breathed into them with up-to-date color schemes.YorkWallpaper-2

So, where – and how – can you use wallpaper to up the style quotient in your home? Here are some ideas:

  • Give a tiny powder room or a guest bathroom some real style power by adding boldly colored and patterned wallpaper. For instance, if you want real drama, you could add a black damask paper that creates an instant “wow” factor. The darker, the bolder the statement.

  • Bedrooms: For a stunning boudoir backdrop, add wallpaper to the wall behind your bed’s headboard. Make it a real focal point by pulling a single color from the paper and painting the rest of the walls in that shade. You’ll get a stylistically cohesive look while still drawing attention to the papered wall.
  • Dining rooms: Add an air of formality to a dining room with a dignified wallpaper pattern. That doesn’t mean it has to be something your grandmother would choose – there are plenty of modern wallpaper options that blend elegance and personality. Don’t be afraid to use the wallpaper in an unconventional method. Try your ceiling instead of your walls!
